Project Details – Will Smith’s Upcoming Movie
The action-thriller Sugar Bandits, starring Will Smith, is poised to generate a lot of interest in the forthcoming European Film Market.
The crime movie based on Chuck Hogan’s book Devils in Exile doesn’t yet have a logline. The project, which does not yet have a director attached, is being sponsored by AGC Studios and will be showcased at this month’s EFM in Berlin, where the market begins on Thursday.
Ryan Shimazaki is in charge of the project at Westbrook Studios, where Smith and Jon Mone are producing. Richard Abate of 3 Arts Entertainment and Stuart Ford of AGC Studios are also producers. Distribution rights across the world are handled by AGC International and CAA Media Finance.
Storyline and Background
The Sugar Bandits script was written by Hogan (The Town, 13 Hours), who adapted his novel from 2010. The central character of the novel is Neal Maven, a Boston resident who, after the Iraq War, finds himself without many career prospects, and links up with other servicemen to steal from local drug dealers. The Hollywood Reporter previously said that Joe Carnahan was in discussions to helm Sugar Bandits when the project was initially set up at Universal Pictures more than ten years ago.Smith’s Recent Ventures
Less than a year after Smith made news for slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, Apple TV+ debuted Antoine Fuqua’s historical drama Emancipation, which was her most recent movie. A follow-up to I Am Legend and the fourth Bad Boys movie are among Smith’s other probable ventures. EFM premieres on February 15 and runs until February 21, coinciding with the commencement of the Berlin Film Festival. CAA is Smith’s representation.
