MatPat, whose true name is Matthew Patrick, revealed in a new video titled “Goodbye Internet” that he would be passing over his YouTube channels to someone else on March 9th, the last day of hosting his YouTube empire. “For me, and in the context of my journey, I always wanted to go out on a high note,” he remarked in the video. “And when you pause and look back at the past year, it has been the best year of existential life, no joke.” Matthew Patrick and his spouse Stephanie started The Game Theorists in 2011 as a place for openly exploring into concepts and debating the ideas and complexity behind well-known video games. Finally, the YouTube celebrity has set up a variety of spin-off channels, such as Style Theorist, Food Theorist, and Film Theorist. Just the gaming channel has 18.4 million users as of January.

Last year, Matthew Patrick presented the Streamy Awards, which received 15 million views across all digital media inside the first 48 hours. The 2023 awards ceremony beat the previous record of 9.7 million views established in 2021, becoming the most-watched show in the event’s 13-year history. After working for almost ten years, he mentioned in his goodbye video that he wanted to spend more time with his family.

I became bewildered.”
