Wizards of Waverly Place Return: Selena Gomez, David Henrie Reunite 2024!
Selena Gomez and David Henrie, who portrayed Alex and Justin in the original sitcom which aired in 2007, will be executive producers of the pilot, Disney Branded Television revealed to CBS News.
Gomez is expected to feature in the pilot as a guest star and Henrie will appear as Justin regularly. The cast will also include new arrivals to Waverly Place, such as Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos.
The magic-filled sequel recounts the narrative of Justin, who leaves his position at WizTech and his magic skills behind to live a regular life with his family — until a strong young wizard comes up at his door searching for instruction, according to the press release. “Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World.”
The pilot episode is written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who were behind the relaunch of “That’s So Raven.”
On her Instagram story, Gomez uploaded a flashback shot of herself with Henrie on the set of “Wizards of Waverly Place” with the message, “We’re back.” She also stated that she is “so excited” with a photo of Deadline’s article, as well as a picture of what looks to be the “Wizards” pilot screenplay with the phrase, “Home again.”
Disney Channel and Henrie also hinted at the surprise, sharing the front cover of the pilot script next to a wand on Instagram. “The Russos are excited to become a part of your family, but we’ve grown,” Henrie said in the description of his photo. “2024, the year magic comes back.”
