Wendy Williams Reveals Diagnosis of Frontotemporal Dementia
The diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia has been made public by Wendy Williams. This announcement comes two days ahead of the debut of what is supposed to be a fascinating lifetime docu-series focusing on the former talk show host.
According to a news statement that was distributed on Thursday pretending to be from Williams’s care team, she was diagnosed in 2023 following a series of medical tests. Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and aphasia are two separate illnesses that damage people’s abilities to understand and utilize language.
Wendy Williams has an influence on both behavioral and cognitive processes over time. Aphasia and FTD have, quote, already posed major obstacles in Wendy’s life, according to the press release.
The statement was made just one day after a cover story in People Magazine exposed that Wendy Williams is now staying in a facility that is financially monitored by a court-appointed guardian, with her family essentially shut off from her existence.
Family Concerns and Controversy Surrounding Williams’ Care
It was reported by her niece Alex Finney and sister Wanda Williams that Williams cannot be contacted directly. The Hollywood Reporter has heard she is only reachable by her guardian, whose name is not disclosed in the upcoming Lifetime film.
Following the press release stating Williams’ illness, Lifetime informed THR that Williams’ family had no comment and that they were not aware of the sources of the statement or that it was being shared on Thursday. The debut of Where Is Wendy Williams? is slated for February 24 on Lifetime.
Following her famous daytime discussion program was discontinued in June 2022, Williams started recording a two-night documentary series. Upon her arrival in the institution in April 2023, they quit filming her.
Lifetime Docu-Series Debut Amidst Health Revelations
Williams had been extraordinarily candid as she dealt with her health and addiction over the years, but her condition in the dying days of her talk show and beyond remained a mystery. In the docu-series, her manager Will Selby implies that she has cognitive issues.
Wendy Williams’ son, Kevin Hunter Jr., says medics informed him mom was suffering from alcohol-induced dementia.
Resilience and Support Amidst Health Struggles
The statement in the press release closed by adding, quote, Wendy is still able to accomplish many things for herself, but most importantly she preserves her trademark sense of humor and is receiving the care she requires to make sure she is safe and that her needs are handled. She is glad of the countless warm thoughts and good wishes being sent her way. For much more on this subject and the latest updates, check THR.com.
