Owen Smith’s “Alexei Navalny” | The New Yorker


The cover of the October 21, 2024, issue, by Owen Smith, is a portrait of Alexei Navalny, an excerpt of whose prison diaries appears in the issue. Navalny details the final years of his life spent in confinement, and implores the Russian people to resist Putin’s regime. “We must do what they fear—tell the truth, spread the truth,” Navalny writes. “This is the most powerful weapon.”
